Last night, my parents and I said good bye to my little brother Dashiell for a month so that he can go skiing in New Zealand with his coach and teammates. This is the 4th year in a row that he has left for NZ, but it seems that the older he gets, the harder it is for me to say bye to him. I have an awesome relationship with him, and it seems unreal that I will be an only child for a month. No more jam sesh’s, laughs, or random walks with him for a whole month. While I usually tell people that I don’t mind when he leaves, that is the biggest lie ever. It’s hard to not have your best friend and brother be there when you want him or just to pop into his room and scare him. The little things are making me miss him more, and I cannot wait to see him soon. But I will say, a month is just too long!!
Today I took a hike. While this isn’t a usual thing for me, ( I am a self-accused water girl… Walking + hiking + land = a confused Madison.) I surprisingly enjoyed walking up a hill and looking at a beautiful view. It also helps that I got to share this memory with a good friend of mine, Theo, while we shared memories and stories, I started to understand the magic of hiking. It may not be glamorous and the trek up may be difficult but the view is so worth it.
